For collectors, not speculators.

Comrade Cosmonaut as an idea started really in my early childhood. I've always been interested in creating and collecting objects, specifically figures and figurines. I collected GI Joe's when they weren't even on the shelves where I lived, hunting for old stock and asking toy stores if they had any. I had boxes of Kinder Egg toys, Happy Meal additions and random other small play figures. A collection of David the Gnome figurines.

As creating 3D objects wasn't something easy for a preteen, I moved to drawing. I love creating figures and setting them in a world, but I was never good at writing down stories. I love comic books and would love to create them, but could never finish one, obsessed with the next character and idea I would have. Didn't stop me collecting though.

This lead to a study of Art History in my twenties. With this I discovered limited editions as an expression of art and through that art/designer toys. As you can imagine, art history wasn't the good career myself and other students thought after the crash of 2008 and I ended up in the Tech sector, moving countries. Wanting to create kept eating at me while I made long days in call centres and on phones with customers. It wasn't until we all got locked in during the pandemic that my mind could grasp a way for me to create objects for what I consider myself, a natural collector.

That's where Comrade Cosmonaut started to really take hold. I chose the name as I believe in the early 20th century ideas of art for the masses, which ties in to socialist ideals. Art is meant for everyone, not just the idle rich who pack their warehouses with objects, just to have them and deprive others. Art is there to be appreciated, researched and displayed. Also, I think the old forms of art aren't suitable for the masses anymore. Fine art is unaffordable for most and even collecting has been raided by speculators, putting ridiculous prices on those final touches that would look well in a true collection. You shouldn't have to take on an extra mortgage to complete a collection.

Comrade Cosmonaut is here to create collectible objects for collectors, not speculators. Any object created under the label is worth more when displayed and used for its intended purpose and loses value if it's just kept in a box in a warehouse or slabbed and graded (a process I call "entombing".) Comrade Cosmonaut embraces creases, fading and other signs of enjoyment. At the end of the day, collectible art is meant to help you hunt for the rare, not the valuable and to enjoy what you've collected.

The ideas for what Comrade Cosmonaut Custom Collectibles will produce are big. I'd love to have toy lines, trading cards, pogs and all other kinds of objects available for you to enjoy. We'll start small though, with just me and my art in collectable form. With your support, hopefully we can grow our offerings and bring the ethos of collecting back to the masses.
